When your web hosting account is full, you have two options: make room, or upgrade to a higher plan that allows more space. The third option is not really acceptable: leave the account as is and risk having its website malfunctioning or missing important emails.
Here are some ways to free up disk space in your account.
Cleaning up backups
Deleting excess backups is the first thing to do, as this is probably where the most disk space is used.
- Web hosting account backups;
- Installatron application backups;
- Backups created by your website;
- Other manual backups or unused zip files;
Similarly, any unused large files or folders can be deleted to make room.
Be careful not to delete system files or files essential to the operation of your services! Always make a data backup before proceeding with a deletion operation ;)
Cleaning up emails
Email accounts are a place where a lot of data can accumulate. It's good to go and have a look.
- Delete unnecessary emails (spam, trash, etc.);
- Delete unused email accounts;
- Archive or back up old emails to your computer and then delete them from the server;
Note that emails with large attachments will take up the most space.
Clean up the databases
It is rarer for databases to be the main cause of low disk space, but it can still happen in some cases.
- Optimize your database tables;
- Delete unused databases;
- Delete unused tables;
- Delete unused entries;
Always make a data backup before proceeding with a deletion operation ;)
